This sweet baby girl came to the studio with her very own VIP cheering section. Girl number three for this family and everyone was so, very excited to welcome this bundle of sweetness into the family. And she ROCKED her session as well! Just look at the cuteness captured in the studio:
Sweet Sibling Snuggles
When mom contacted me during her pregnancy, she knew she wanted to include the entire family during the newborn shoot. I steered her in the direction of the Deluxe Session, which is the most popular package and also includes photos with parents and siblings. Mom also chose to add on a maternity session which I ADORE because it gives me an opportunity to work with the entire family before the newborn session. PLUS you get even more artwork to add to your walls. This little one wanted me to capture her belly too–isn’t she adorbs?!
The family portion of the shoot is done right away so siblings can relax after their portion. Some parents drive separately so they can take brothers of sisters to the park or to get ice cream since sessions can last up to three hours. This gives them a chance to get spoiled and have some one-on-one time with a parent while the focus in the studio can be on the new baby during the photo shoot. If driving separately is not an option, I have a whole room full of toys for them to play and stay entertained.
When choosing a newborn photographer, make sure they have the training and skill to safely work with each family member with confidence and patience. This sweet adorable thing first came to “see” me when she was in her gorgeous mommy’s belly:
Wasn’t mom just STUNNING?! Mom contacted me early on in her pregnancy and wanted to book her maternity and newborn sessions. Since this was the first tiny nugget for this family, mom didn’t know where to start. Good thing I love my job and have a lot of experience working with parents and babies! I told her she made the first important step–contacting me right away. We scheduled her maternity shoot around 33 weeks, which is the PERFECT time. You aren’t too uncomfortable yet, plus you have a beautiful baby bump to show off. Since mom booked a Full Session, she had a few “costume” changes and really looked like a gorgeous queen in each of her images. Mom even got her gorgeous white gown (pictured above) on Amazon!
In just a few short weeks after the session, sweet Baby Gabby was born! I LOVE when people book maternity and newborn sessions as a package for a couple of reasons. For one, I am able to meet and work the parents before your bundle arrives. There’s something really special about going through that anticipation together and really building that bond and working relationship. Plus parents know what to expect for their newborn session, since they have already physically worked with me. It kind of eases any jitters beforehand.
And just look at how adorable she is! We were able to capture so many amazing images during sweet Gabby’s session.

Can you believe your sweet little baby is all grown up?! Like…how in the WORLD did that happen?! WHEN in the world did that happen? I bet you remember cuddling your sweet toddler through rough nights or helping your middle schooler through friend drama, and now–ah-hem, it’s time to for SENIOR YEAR of HIGH SCHOOL. Oh man. Makes me want to squeeze the ba-jeebers out of my little ones. OK. Breathe deep. So, NOW it’s time to set up a Senior Photo Shoot. This isn’t just any photo shoot. This is a time to celebrate your senior. Celebrate what he or she has accomplished so far. Cheer on where he or she is headed in the future. This photo shoot should be EPIC. And it WILL BE…with KatieRie Photography.
When Should We Book our Session?
Senior Sessions typically take place during the summer before the Senior Year of High School. This allows enough time to meet deadlines as to when your photo needs to be submitted for the yearbook. Each school is different, so please be sure to check with your own high school so you can avoid rushing around, panicking to get everything in on time. Most schools have a deadline in the fall.
Since your session is usually during the summer, I love choosing locations with plenty of different colors, backgrounds and textures so your senior can be showcased (not overpowered) by the surroundings. Senior sessions are photographed about an hour or so before sunset (during my coveted Golden Hour), which gives stunning lighting for your portraits. I have a list of preferred locations where I know the lighting extremely well, so you will get GORGEOUS images in your gallery.
PRO TIP: Be sure to bring bug spray! Those mosquitos can be downright NASTY during this time of year!
What Should I Bring?
Around 3-4 outfits usually is the perfect amount of clothing variety for Senior Pictures. Bring something dressy, something casual, and something that really represents your son or daughter’s personality. It’s important to remember that you want to document who your son or daughter is at this point of time, so don’t fight it if he or she wants photos with his favorite tee! Embrace it. Also, sometimes seniors like to bring a jersey, trophies or instruments to show off their talents and accomplishments. This is a GREAT IDEA!
I also recommend bringing make-up and hairspray for touch ups. In between changes you can check to make sure you look exactly how you would like. Some people invest in getting their hair and make-up done–this is GREAT way to pamper yourself for your big day! Be sure to do a practice run-through though, so you know exactly what you will be getting the day of your session.
PRO TIP: Ladies~ be sure to take any chipping nail polish off of your nails. This might be a great time to get your nails done as well. You will be looking at these photos for the rest of your life!
What Happens During the Session? After?
Once your Senior Session is booked, (signed contract and paid retainer secures your date) we will discuss your vision for your session. This can be in person, via email, or on the phone. We can go over outfit choices or any other questions you might have leading up to your session. Once your session date arrives–this is the time to have FUN! Sometimes I tell mom to hang out by a picnic table or by the car. She can still see the session happening, but often the senior is a little nervous and won’t loosen up if mom is calling out “no, not THAT smile… look natural!” I promise I will get gorgeous, natural looks. It’s my job.:)
The session usually takes about an hour. After your session, I will go through and discard any images that didn’t make the cut (eyes closed, bugs, poor posture). After that, I soft proof, or lightly edit the images that did make the cut. These images will be MORE than your allotted images (depending on which package you choose). And voila! Your gallery is created. You then get a week to choose your final images that I will artistically and completely edit. I offer packages with digital images as well as packages with products and prints…it just depends what is best for YOU. I will help you through the entire process.
One thing for certain, is you will have absolutely STUNNING images for your Senior Portraits. As stated earlier, this is the time to celebrate your wonderful Senior. I can’t wait to work with you to create beautiful works of art!

This sweet bundle of love came to the studio and was full of so much peace–she slept the entire time without a fuss! Mom, dad and big sister were all too excited to watch her session. Mom wanted soft neutral colors that would stand the test of time. I told her she came to the right place! Soft neutrals are my JAM! We showcased all of baby Ella’s features without overpowering them. And mom had a BLAST going through the studio’s outfits and headbands that were made specifically for photography. That’s RIGHT! One Year Milestone Session with KatieRie Photography
HOORAY!! Your little one is about to turn ONE (or already did)!! How in the world did this happen?! WHEN did this happen?? It seems like just yesterday, you were wondering if your baby would ever sleep through the night OR you are wondering WHEN your baby will sleep through the night (it will happen soon, I PROMISE). NOW it’s time to celebrate that huge milestone! There are so many big milestones in that first year of life and it only makes sense to capture that cute, sometimes HUGE personality your nugget has developed in a One Year Session.
The Process
I wanted to explain what a One Year Milestone Session entails with KatieRie Photography. It’s really pretty easy and straight forward–you can be super involved in the process, letting me know exactly what you want, or you can let me take the creative reigns. Some parents don’t know where to start and then some moms have been searching Pinterest for months pinning the perfect photos. Depending on if you choose a mini or a full session, you will get gorgeous images that will last forever. I will help educate you on products that are unique and what would look stunning in your home. We will capture all the cuteness that makes up your little babe.
What to Bring
The studio is all inclusive, which means you honestly don’t have to bring a thing except your little one and a small cake, if you choose to do a smash. It’s well equipped with hand-made outfits that were crafted specifically for photography needs. These are classic pieces that will showcase your little one, instead of overpower her or him. Some people still prefer to bring outfits and that’s completely fine as well! I just love to offer the option to use the studio outfits–makes life a little easier!
Expectations
I always tell parents that it’s best to keep an open mind when it comes to milestone sessions. Sometimes babies will dive into cake, other times kids will think it’s absolutely revolting and end up crying. Some one year old’s are happy-go-lucky; others have “stranger-danger.” The point of a One Year Session is to capture that milestone, no matter where your daughter or son is in the journey. Some might be taking first steps, others might be ok crawling or standing. Some might need extra snuggles from mommy–that’s OK! Just keep an open mind and I will do the rest.
And guess what, if you don’t want to do a cake smash portion of the session, that’s ok too! Some parents have already thrown a party and KNOW their little gal does NOT like cake. You will still get a great variety of looks to celebrate your son or daughter.
Sessions can be indoor, (in the studio) OR outdoor during Golden Hour. Most parents opt for a studio session, since these are held in the morning and babies tend to be happier during this time. But all babies are different and I have also had success during outdoor sessions as well!
I tell newborn clients all the time that it’s so amazing to book the milestone sessions with the same photographer (ah-hem, KatieRie, ah-hem), so they can have consistent quality and looks with their sessions. And how FUN is it to compare those photos?! To see the growth and personalities!
