Charlotte Newborn, Maternity, Baby and Family Photographer
Category: Newborn Photography
KatieRie Photography is a professional Charlotte, NC newborn photographer.
As a newborn photographer, I realize the importance of capturing every. single. detail. Aside from images of babies in the cute props and poses, the wraps, headbands, bonnets, and hats that you will find in my STUDIO, I also get up close and “personal” with your sweet bundle. I capture the sweet little pouty lips, the perfect untouched fingernails, the gorgeous lashes, that amazing head of hair–I capture all of it. For YOU. Why? Because once reality sets in that you have a newborn and you are actually surviving, the first couple weeks go so fast and all of a sudden you will look back and think “holy MOLY! A month FLEW by!” And in that month, your sweetness will have already changed.
My promise to you as your newborn photographer is that I will capture those tiny details for you, so you can look back and see how little your little one was. So you can go back to that feeling of “how in the world did we make this?!” Every last detail I will catch in beautifully unique images that you will hold onto forever.

This sweet thing’s mommy contacted me back in October wanting to set up newborn baby photos. Even though mommy was due in February, she wanted to get on the schedule ASAP to guarantee a session spot. She found me on Facebook and I’m so happy she did because this little family of three was amazing to work with. Just look at the cuteness that was captured!
Mom and dad chose the Deluxe Package, which includes many different set-ups and looks, and this little beauty let me work my magic! We got a HUGE variety for their gallery because she was so good and sleepy and perfect. (It also helped that the parents followed my Studio Guide to help prepare for the session;).
Her features were absolutely GORGEOUS! Those little pouty lips…that HAIR! God’s perfect work, right there. Mom expressed that she loved soft purples, pinks and neutrals, which matches my HUGE collection of props, backdrops, bonnets, layers, and headbands in the Newborn Studio–win/win!
I love how the style of the session flows together, while giving different looks. This allows for a gorgeous gallery that has many different images to choose from, but they also go together when printed and hung on in your home.
Wether you are expecting your first bundle of love or this is your fourth tiny miracle, many parents wonder what to expect during a newborn photo session with KatieRie (the ‘Rie’ pronounced REEEEE;). They don’t know what to bring (I’ll cover this), they don’t know how the session will actually go (what if my child CRIES!), they don’t know what the studio will be like (super DUPER WARM)… so I decided to answer some questions in a blog!
CONGRATULATIONS! You are EXPECTING a Tiny BABY!
Now what? I always try to educate people to reach out as soon as they learn they are expecting. That way I can pencil in your due date on my schedule and secure your date. It’s important to take care of this sooner rather than later since I only take a certain amount of newborns each month to insure that each client gets VIP service from yours, Truly. Then, a signed contract and a paid retainer holds a spot for you, which I send over via email. You also have your very own page where you are able to see paid invoices, the calendar, and all our correspondences in one handy spot, making it super easy to keep things organized.
It’s also best to decide if you would like a maternity session as well. These sessions are photographed about an hour before sunset (during Golden Hour) to ensure the gorgeous, dreamy lighting highlights your beautiful bump. These sessions are best around 28-34 weeks, when you have a beautiful bump to showcase, but you aren’t too uncomfortable or swollen. I also help stylize these sessions as well!
What happens after I book?!
Your sessions were booked, you had your gorgeous maternity session and you were STUNNING, what’s next?! I will send an email reminder a few weeks before your due date and I tell parents to contact me once baby arrives. MOST parents send me a text or an email directly from the hospital, once things have settled down a bit. That way I can arrange my schedule and plan for childcare (remember?! I had THREE under THREE?! I have been in your shoes a few times!). Most sessions happen either Saturday or Sunday mornings, SOMETIMES they happen during the week (again, always in the morning). Once I am notified that your baby has arrived, I confirm an exact day and time with you. I then send over a STUDIO GUIDE that I advise parents to try to follow as best as they can to help prepare for the session.
Day of Your Session!
Aren’t you EXCITED?! It’s the day of your SESSION, Y’all! At this point of time, we have already discussed color preferences as well as what to bring to your session–no need to bring a THING!. Isn’t that awesome?! The Studio is completely stocked with many, MANY props, layers, textures, headbands, bonnets, backdrops–you name it, I have it! I also advise for parents to only bring the people who are being photographed. It’s important for the atmosphere to remain calm and quiet as I work through the flow of the session with an intimate audience.
The studio is WARM as well, so I tell parents to dress in layers–the studio is for the baby to be cozy and to emulate the womb as much as possible. If parents are planning on being photographed, I recommend neutral clothing–limited patterns and/or bright colors. Same clothing choices for siblings as well.
Sit back and RELAX!
There’s a reason why parents call me a “Baby Whisperer” and ask if they can hire me to come over in the middle of the night–LOL! I GOT this! It’s your time to sit back and relax. Some parents enjoy watching the session and others doze off for a quick nap. It’s a very calming atmosphere for everyone in the room. I have soothing and wrapping techniques to help keep your baby calm and happy. I absolutely LOVE my job and can’t wait to capture your perfect little miracle.
Let’s CHAT and see if we are a good fit! I would love to capture your Little.
Welcome Baby Genevieve~Charlotte area Newborn Photographer
I absolutely LOVE capturing newborn photos. I love newborn babies and their sweet smells, their subtle movements and tiny squawks–every little thing about them is miraculous. This sweet little thing came to the studio and I was all too excited to capture her adorableness and beauty. Since moving to Gastonia, NC from Milwaukee, WI it has been quite a transition getting the studio prepared for my littlest clients, but every session allows to me to tweak things just so to better serve my southern clients.
This mommy texted me to let me know that her little miracle arrived and I was SO happy to be able to get her into the studio the exact day I flew back to Wisconsin to photograph a wedding. Since I love photographing newborn babies within the first ten days of life, this was perfect timing! Just look at how gorgeous this little one is!
Session Packages
When clients book their Newborn Sessions with KatieRie Photography, they choose between three packages (Classic, Deluxe, and Premium). Your proof gallery will be presented with MORE images than your package states, so you get to choose your favorites (the amount depends on which package you choose) PLUS you have the option to purchase more files. clients purchase more images or the entire gallery. Genevieve was SO ADORABLE in ALL of her images, mom and dad had difficulty choosing which images to keep. I can see why! Can’t you?
What to Bring to your Session
Often times parents ask if they need to bring anything for their session. The answer is–NO! The studio is STOCKED with the softest fabrics for layers, wraps, bonnets and headbands–all handmade specifically for newborn photography. Nothing but the best for my little VIP clients! Parents have access to a whole wardrobe for their tiny one. A few favorite vendors I love to work with are A Bit Of String (she handmade the tiny bear in the photos above), Baby Bliss Props and Vanilla Lullaby (headbands). Props, layers and wraps are chosen to compliment the sweet baby, not overpower her presence. I love using soft neutral colors that will stand the test of time hanging in your beautiful home.
Not only was baby beautiful, but this whole family was absolutely stunning! This little family of three is both gorgeous AND kind, and I was super thrilled to be able to work with them in preserving their memories forever.
Even though I prefer warmer weather, gorgeous snowy maternity photography sessions are my JAM! Want to know a fun fact about me? A HUGE reason why my family and I decided to relocate to North Carolina is because we wanted to be in a warmer climate. We were getting cabin fever staying indoors a good portion of the year living in Wisconsin, so we packed up and moved the gang SOUTH! BYEEEE WINTER!
We moved to Gastonia, NC in October. We LOVED the weather we were experiencing. Then along came December… and the Charlotte area called for snow. Um…I guess the joke was on us–HA! Maybe we brought the weather with us?! But guess what…I LOVE snow. LOVE IT. The “once in awhile” snow where everything shuts down and you can get warm and cozy and feel safe and comfy with your family while watching the Hallmark channel. So I WELCOMED the snow. So there. Can’t get me down!
I had a maternity photo shoot scheduled for that exact day. The day of the storm. And luck would have it…she is my neighbor (hallelujah!!) We went back and forth if we should reschedule, but the snow stopped for just the right amount of time that we were able to capture these stunning images on the trail in between our yards (can we say PERFECTION?!). Here is beautiful mommy-to-be. Isn’t she GORGEOUS?
The snow was absolutely beautiful. We even had a chance to sneak in a few photos with her toddler and hubby as well. Everyone LOVED the snow and the warm snuggles!
One of my favorite things when I was pregnant was setting my other littles on my built-in “shelf” of a belly. I love that we were able to capture this for mommy:
New baby photos…sigh…Do you know how incredibly blessed I feel to be able to capture these HUGE milestones in my clients’ lives? This momma of FIVE reached out to me to book Madison’s newborn session and I was SO excited to be able to work with her. Having moved to the Charlotte area from Milwaukee, WI, where I had a pretty successful clientele, and then moving to Charlotte had me starting from scratch, building up my business. So have ALL. THE. FEELS. When my new clients trust me with their little loves. This mommy wanted a session where the focus was one her baby only–no sibling or parent poses–so she chose the Classic Newborn Session. Just look at her sweet face in these images:
She had the SWEETEST little rolls and the PERFECT skin (which doesn’t happen all the time with newborns, so I was doing the happy dance editing! HA!). We were able to get many different looks so mom had many options to choose from for her final gallery. I just love how her tiny details are complimented (not overpowered) by the dainty headbands and wraps–and lucky for my clients, the studio is STOCKED with a huge variety of handmade headbands, bonnets, hats, wraps, texture layers and props that were made specifically for newborn photography (cue the hallelujah choir!). That means all you have to do is show up for your session. No need to bring a thing except the baby.
Baby Madison had the sweetest little features–her lips, those cheeks–a newborn photographer’s DREAM. Near the end of her session, she was starting to wake up and I was so pumped to get a few photos of her interacting with the camera. Look at her little personality shining through! What an amazing session to have in the new studio in a new state with a new baby. Thanks for allowing me to capture your precious addition!
