Pause Time & Capture Moments

Can we talk a little about pausing time?  I can’t tell you how many clients I see year after year who tell me to enjoy the “little” stage while I’m in it. You know, when they are YOUNG?  And CRAZY?  And sometimes that’s really, really difficult to do since we are basically “in the weeds” with our youngsters.  Three under three is NO JOKE.  Three different stages back to back to BACK. That’s three different tantrums, sometimes all at ONCE.  This mommy is tired and sometimes questioning if I am a good enough mommy for them.  My point is I TRY to savor these moments because of my job.  As a photographer, I actually see these families grow right before my eyes. So I take what they say to heart.

Take a look at some of these clients.

Do you see how much these kids have grown?!  It’s like RIGHT before my eyes!  And how important is it to capture those moments every single year.  No, not from your iphone.  By a professional.  So you have these beautiful pieces of ART documenting life as you remember it.

I just finished this guy’s Senior Portraits.  Just wait until you see how much he has grown in FIVE YEARS:

Wait for it…

See?!  The picture on the right is from FIVE YEARS AGO.  And now he’s a senior.  In the blink of an eye, I tell ya!

Or maybe it’s just one year that has gone by:

Travel Family Photographer–Charlotte to Milwaukee

Sweet Loomis Family

Ok…never in a MILLION years would I think that I would be traveling from state to state to do photo sessions, but here I am! This summer has been PACKED with travel and sessions which has made my heart super happy. Not only do I get to say hi to friends and family, but I also get go to my old stomping grounds to capture some amazing photos. Take a look at this adorable family I was able to capture in one of my visits:

Mom contacted me in early spring wanting to set up a family session.  She had searched for a photographer in the Milwaukee area and KatieRie Photography came up in the search.  She saw my website said Charlotte, NC, but she figured she would reach out anyways–and I’m so glad she did!  For one, I had to do some editing on my site to still include the Milwaukee area.  But also, I was planning a few trips to the Milwaukee area and we were able to set up a Family Session.  We were able to capture so much love and connection during their session.  Take a look!

One of the things I LOVE doing during sessions is finding the right balance between lifestyle and smiling at the camera. To me, my favorite images are the moments that are captured–the tickles, the giggles, the nuzzles into cheeks.  Those true moments, but I also know that some people prefer the “looking at the camera photos” as well, so I try to do both.

So much LOVE in this adorable family!  I love working with people from all different walks of life, and this session was no different.  We bonded right away–so much so that the little girl said I was her best friend!  I definitely call that a WIN in my book!

Welcome to the World, Sweet Dominic!

When I say I have the cutest clients, I mean I have the cutest clients. When mom sent me the email letting me know little Dominic had arrived, the photo she attached was of him smiling already in the hospital! Melt. My. HEART! He was born on July 10th at 7 pounds 9 ounces. The PERFECT size, if you ask me! Mom first contacted me a few months ago, wanting to schedule her soon-to-be bundle’s newborn photo shoot and I was so happy she did and that I had an opening!  All of his images were absolutely gorgeous…but don’t take MY word for it.  Look for yourself!

Once a client has booked and secured their date (by signing a contract with a paid retainer), I communicate with the client a few more times leading up to the session.  I always ask what the nursery looks like (and to attach a photo for reference) and/or if they have any specific themes or color preferences.  Mom sent me a photo of this sweet boy’s nursery and I was in love!  I wanted her to come decorate MY house;)  I then knew exactly what to pull for Dominic’s session that would look perfect in their house.  I work with ALL my clients to achieve this outcome!  One of the many perks of booking with KatieRie Photography. Another bonus is that you don’t have to bring a THING to your session, other than your baby.  That’s right! The studio is totally equipped with props (TONS of props), headbands, layering pieces, bonnets, hats, little outfits–all of these things have been made specifically for newborn photography and they are all so perfect and classic for newborn sessions! I also answer every single question leading up to your session to ease any anxiety you might have.  Your newborn photography session will happen with tons of ease and comfort. (Check out this post for more questions answered about your experience with KatieRie).

I LOVE getting newborns into the studio within the first ten days of life–for me, this is when they are super sleepy and can transition from pose to pose with ease.  I have photographed slightly older newborns as well with great success, I just prefer the ten day window for my newbies.  Either way, you will get gorgeous works of art that can be beautifully displayed in your home forever!  Just take Dominic’s gallery as a sublime example!
